3 tips for travelling from Bali to Gili

There’s no doubt that it’s an exciting time to be making the trip over from mainland Bali to The Gili Isles, between Bali and neighbouring main island, Lombok.

My guests are heading over there tomorrow from and so I thought that now was a good time to offer some tips to make the journey smoother.

My guests are travelling from the Ubud area to Padangbai and need about an hour and a half to get from their hotel to the harbour. They are travelling with Eka Jaya and are staying on Gili Meno and so need to take the 10.30 boat. I have purchased their tickets so they just have to turn up at the Eka Jaya office an hour before to check in, give their names and nationalities and they will be given their tickets and boarding passes. There is now an hour’s wait (if the boat runs on time).

You can either find a spot in the waiting room of the harbour or go and find a nearby cafe and have a sea view and some breakfast.

My 3 top tips are:

#1 Stock up with water, drinks and/or snacks beforehand

#2 Have sunblock applied and handy particularly if you sit upstairs during the journey

#3 Be prepared for long waits and crowds…see the whole trip as an interesting and fun experience…you’re off to the Gillis!!!
