#1 Kelapa muda (young coconut)
What an amazing natural resource and coconut trees are everywhere in Bali!
While the entire tree is used for different purposes (to be covered in a separate post), the water (or juice) inside the young coconut is so good, sweet and fragrant.
I buy chilled ones at the local waring across the street from my house for Rp 12,000, which are so refreshing and hydrating and perfect for the climate.
They are between Rp10,000 (roadside) to Rp 50,000 (hotel price and served with an umbrella and a flower) and they are highly recommended….and remember…cold is best!
#2 Pisang goreng (fried banana)
Well if anywhere can do bananas, then Indonesia can! Bananas are so very much part of life and culture here.
And if you thought a banana was just a banana, then think again…there are so many different types, shapes, sizes and flavours! (Good content for another post)
One important thing to know is that pisang goreng is a cheap and tasty snack and goes perfectly with coffee!
There are stands at the side of the road selling “Gorengan” which include fried tofu, tempe and pisang (banana) which you can buy for Rp1,000 a piece! So a mixed bag of gorengan for Rp 10,000. Can’t be bad!
There are also places that specialise with different toppings like cheese and chocolate and nuts…very yummy!
#3 Durian
You’ll smell it before you see it! There so many varieties of delicious fruit to try in Bali but this one is very famous!
A lot of people are initially put off by the smell but he texture of the fruit inside the spiky shell is smooth and silky and melt -in-your-mouth!
The durian season is November until March and you can eeasily find them at roadside stalls and local markets. Prices range depending on region and size but say between Rp 20,000- Rp50,000.
Just a warning… once you have a taste for them, there’s no going back!
